Question: When you were younger did you have an interest in stars?

Yes! I can’t remember not being interested in stars- in fact the first thing I ever studied for was my Cub Scout Astronomy badge! I grew up watching a lot of Star Trek, where every week they would arrive at a strange new world and find out what its like, and that became what I wanted to do as well. It probably helped that the place where I grew up had very clear skies, so I could always see a huge amount of stars at night.
