Question: what is string theory

I don’t know too much about sting theory, but basically it says that all particles, the bits like protons and electrons that make up atoms, are actually tiny strings. Each string vibrates differently, and the way it vibrates tells what kind of particle is is. It’s a neat idea that would explain most of the physics that we know, but no one has come up with a good way to test it yet.
