Good question! The parasite I work on mostly (Toxoplasma gondii) isn’t too deadly but it still can be bad. The problem is it does a lot of things just like human cells so drugs that hurt it can also hurt our cells and sometimes make us even more sick. Me and my friends are trying to find out what the parasite does differently so we can attack it while leaving human cells alone. But its quite tricky, I think to cure it will take decades but we might get drugs that are a bit better within the next 5-10 years.
