• Question: Hello Tora, i was so upset when i found out you could not make the live chat! My gran has parkinsons and has developed many treavours etc... So I've been interested in parkinsons ever since. What can you tell me about the disease? Another question that i need to know is: what is the average time span on remaining life before the disease eventually kills you? love holly xx

      Hi Holly!

So sorry I couldn’t make the live chat! I only missed one last week — the one on Friday morning as my son (4!) had an assembly at school I went to! I guess that’s the one you were on?

I’m sorry to hear your gran has Parkinson’s. It’s not a fun thing. My husband’s father has Parkinson’s too.

The disease mostly affects the motor system — so slowing done movement & the tremors are part of that. There are some treatments, but they can only slow down the disease a bit.

I don’t think there is really an average time span on life remaining as people can live with Parkinson’s for a very long time (10-20 years). Often people actually die of something else, not Parkinson’s, but the life span is less that people of the same age without Parkinson’s.

Best wishes for your gran, Holly!

      Tora xx
