      Hello there!
Great that you are investigating rainforests – they are very important! I have worked on the Rio Parana and Rio Paraguay in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Both rivers come through rainforest. They are important for many reasons but species diversity and their carbon draw-down capacities are extremely important.
Did you know that about 50 million years ago Antarctica was covered in rainforests! Known as the ETM or Eocene thermal maximum, earth was quite a bit warmer than now (and had high Co2 levels). Scientists are using this evidence to see what the world will look like if our present global warming continues along the same track. I guess the penguins will need sun lotion!
